I create jewelry using sterling silver and other precious metals.
Many of my pieces are accented with semi-precious gems and freshwater pearls.
In my "real job" I am a computer programmer.
One thing I find frustrating about programming is that I cannot touch or feel anything that
I create. Making jewelry fulfills this need.
I've been studying the art of silversmithing and jewelry making for over 10 years.
It's a lot of fun- where ELSE does a girl get to play with an acetylene torch?
I don't have a degree in the arts, but I studied for several years at Meredith College,
and taken numerous classes at the Carboro Artscenter, the NCSU Craft Center, and Pullen Arts Center.
I've been fortunate to have some great instructors, some of them internationally known, such as
Mary Ann Scherr. Google her- it's a fascinating read.
Other instructors I've studied with include Lillian Jones,
Gary McCutchen and Kathy Holt.
I'd like also like to give a special thanks to Eleanor S. ("Sissy") Marshall, who's been Mary Ann's
"right hand (wo)man" for years. I've learned a lot from her as well.
There's only problem with studying with great teachers... I am constantly reminded how much MORE there is to learn!
